Why I Developed SHIFT
If your stress, anxiety, and overwhelm are sending you deeper into isolation and feeling alone, that is exactly how I felt caring for my Mom with Alzheimer’s.
I struggled every day, convincing myself that if I got better organized and tried harder, I could stay ahead of the problems, I wouldn’t have the level of anxiety I had, and my life would be manageable and happier.
It took me almost dying to realize that I was looking at how I was caring for my Mom all wrong.
I had to change my perspective, my thinking, and how I reacted to our unrelenting challenges, not continue trying to control the circumstances. I acquired the right skills that freed me from my mental prison, helping me find meaning, purpose, and regain my confidence. In developing our program, I wanted to help you, as a caregiver, do the same.

There are few roles as important as caregiving for a loved one. But it’s often the most unappreciated function in American society today – a sometimes thankless job that leads to anxiety, stress, burnout, and even despair. At the SHIFT Caregiver Network, I believe that doesn’t have to be the case.
That’s why I’m committed to compassion, advocacy, respect, and excellence in supporting caregivers. Our organization empowers caregivers through high-quality education, promotes their well-being, and fosters a community of support and resilience. We believe that caring for caregivers is essential to sustaining compassionate, effective care for all.

I believe that perfectly encapsulates what we’re about as an organization. Using my S.H.I.F.T. method, I help caregivers like you go from feeling isolated and alone as a caregiver to feeling aligned with your values, so your days are meaningful. We’ll move you from experiencing self-doubt and futility to feeling confident and purposeful, so you have peace of mind. And finally, we’ll take you from avoiding conflict or confrontation to skillfully responding with compassion, patience, and confidence.
